Midsegment

A midsegment of a triangle is a segment that connects the midpoints of two of the sides of a triangle. The midsegment of the triangle is parallel to the third side of the triangle.

Since a triangle has three sides, there are three midsegments between each pair of sides.

A midsegment can also be drawn in a trapezoid. The midsegment of a trapezoid connects the midpoints of the non-parallel sides.

It is parallel to the two bases of the trapezoid.
