Complementary angles meet a condition about the sum of their measures.

Definition: Two angles are complementary when the sum of their measures is equal to 90^(∘).
Example angles: a 30^(∘) angle and a 60^(∘) angle.

Two angles are complementary when the sum of their measures is equal to 90^(∘). As an example, we can consider ∠ 1 and ∠ 2 such that m∠ 1 = 30^(∘) and m∠ 2 = 60^(∘). m∠ 1 + m∠ 2 = 30^(∘) + 60^(∘) ⇓ m∠ 1 + m∠ 2 = 90^(∘) Notice that in a right triangle, the two acute angles are always complementary.
