Opposite of a Number

Opposites are numbers that are the same distance from 0 in opposite directions.

Usually, to determine opposites we can use a number line. In such cases, we plot the number on a number line, measure its distance from 0. Then, we find the number that is the same distance from 0, but is situated on its other side. Let's consider the given number line and mark 0 on it.

Since zero is situated neither to the right nor to the left of 0, it is not positive nor negative. Its distance from 0 is 0. The only value that is the same distance from 0 is 0 itself. So, 0 is its own opposite, which we already marked on the number line.
