Exercise 3 Page 433

Practice makes perfect
a When the student catches the bag of blood, it has completed one swing. Let's first illustrate the general look of the shape after half a swing and after a full swing.

If the bag is pulled further out it will have a longer swing, which means the corresponding shape will be vertically stretched when compared to the original shape.

b If the paper travels faster, one full swing by the pendulum will cover a longer horizontal distance on the butcher paper. The shape will therefore appear stretched in the horizontal direction when compared to the original.
