Exercise 19 Page 592

Practice makes perfect
a We want to know if the percentage of a certain flavor of cupcake sold is greater for any of the types of celebrations. We can do that by dividing the ordered birthday cake of a certain flavor by the total amount of cakes ordered for that celebration. Therefore, we should use columns.
b Let's determine the quotient of the certain type of cakes with respect to each celebration. First we calculate the total number of cupcakes ordered for the different celebrations.
Now we can determine the percentages. We will begin with birthdays and weddings.
We will continue with Halloween and the of July.
Examining the tables, we see that there is an association between type of celebration and cupcake flavor. If there wasn't, the percentages would be the same across all types of events, or at least roughly the same for a certain type of cake. Comparing the percentages on Halloween and the of July with the other celebrations, we see that they are different.
