Exercise 10 Page 147

Recall the slope-intercept form of a line.

Graph:

Point of Intersection: (-1,3)

Practice makes perfect

To graph the given equations and label the intersection point, we should first notice that both of these lines are in slope-intercept form.

Given Equation Slope-Intercept Form Slope m y-intercept b
y=- x+2 y=-x+ 2 -1 (0, 2)
y=3x+6 y=3x+ 6 3 (0, 6)
To graph each line, we will plot the y-intercept first, then we will use the slope to find another point. Connecting the points will draw the line for each equation.

Now that we have both lines drawn, we can highlight the point of intersection.

The point of intersection represents the solution to our system. In this case, it is (-1, 3).
