Exercise 37 Page 464

Use the Subtraction Property of Equality to eliminate the addition.

Solution: x=4
Property: Subtraction Property of Equality

Practice makes perfect

To solve the equation, we have to isolate x on one side. Using the Subtraction Property of Equality, we will subtract 9 from both sides of the equation. This will eliminate the addition and isolate x.

9+x=13
9+x-9=13-9
x+9-9=13-9
x=4
