The standard form of a polynomial arranges the terms by degree in descending numerical order. 6 + 2x^2 ⇔ 2x^2 + 6 We want to classify this polynomial by the number of terms. The degree of a polynomial is the highest exponent of the variable. 2x^2+6 The highest exponent of the polynomial, and therefore its degree, is 2. The leading coefficient of the polynomial is 2. This polynomial consists of two terms, so it is a binomial.
