We will determine whether the inverse of x2−4 is a function. Then, we will find this inverse.
To determine whether the inverse of a function is also a function, we will use the Horizontal Line Test. To do this, we will first make a table of values to graph the given function. When making a table of values, make sure to use a variety of points, including negative and positive values.
x | x2−4 | f(x)=x2−4 |
---|---|---|
-4 | -42−4 | -421 |
-2 | -22−4 | -5 |
-1 | -12−4 | -6 |
0 | 0−43 | - |
21 | 1/22−4 | 0 |
1 | 12−4 | -2 |
2 | 22−4 | -3 |
4 | 42−4 | -321 |
