We want to find the limit of a function f as x approaches infinity knowing that y=5 is a horizontal asymptote to the right of the graph of f. Let's take a look at a graph of such a function. Notice that it is only an example. The function may look different.

As the function goes to the right, the graph gets closer and closer to the horizontal asymptote y = 5. Therefore, as x approaches positive infinity the limit of f is 5. lim_(x→ ∞) f(x) = 5
