Concept Byte: Exponential and Logarithmic Inequalities
Sign In
Rewrite the inequality as two functions.
x≤ - 0.834
Next, by pushing 2nd and GRAPH, we get a table of values for whole numbers of x. Note that we are looking for x-values that makes the Y_1-column less than or equal to 2.
From the table, we see that Y_1 is equal to 2 somewhere in the interval - 1â–³ Tbl
to 0.001.
Having changed the table setup, push 2nd and GRAPH to see the table again. You are going to have to scroll down to find the value where y=2 for the first function.
From the table, we see that at x≈ - 0.834 the value of the exponential function becomes almost 2. Therefore, the solution to the inequality has to be all values of x that are less than or equal to - 0.834. x≤ - 0.834
