Concept Byte: Exponential and Logarithmic Inequalities
Sign In
Rewrite the inequality as two functions.
x < 31.125
Next, by pushing 2nd and GRAPH, we get a table of values for whole numbers of x. Note that we are looking for x-values that make the Y_1-column less than 3.
From the table, we see that Y_1 is equal to 3 somewhere in the interval 31â–³ Tbl
to 0.001.
Having changed the table setup, push 2nd and GRAPH to see the table again. You are going to have to scroll down to find the value where y=3 for the first function.
From the table, we see that at x=31.125 the value of the logarithmic function becomes 3. Therefore, the solution to the inequality has to be all values of x that are less than 31.125. x < 31.125
