Exercise 22 Page 65

To evaluate a function for a given value of the variable, substitute the value for the variable.

Value: 125
Ordered Pair: (- 1, 125)

Practice makes perfect
To evaluate a function for a certain value of x means that we substitute the given value for every instance of x. Let's do this for the given function when x=- 1.
f(x)=-12x/5
f( - 1)=-12( - 1)/5
f(- 1)=-- 12/5
f(- 1)=- (- 12)/5
f(- 1)=12/5
When x=- 1, the function's value is 125. The ordered pair that corresponds to this result is (- 1, 125).
