Exercise 44 Page 79

What information can you learn from the slope-intercept form of an equation?

Practice makes perfect
Equations written in slope-intercept form follow a specific format. y= mx+ b In this form, m represents the slope of the line and b represents the y-intercept. Let's take a look at given equation.

x=5 If we compare with the slope-intercept form, we can see that the value of the slope is 1 and also we can see that the value for the y-intercept is equal to zero. We can rewrite the given equation in slope-intercept form. 5 = 1 * x + 0 This equation is telling us that each and every point that lies on the line will have an x-coordinate equal to 5. Therefore, the given equation is a vertical line.
