Exercise 7 Page 743

To start solving, estimate the percentages displayed on the bar graph.

≈ 43 %

Practice makes perfect

We have been given a bar graph that represents the heights of men in a survey.

We know that the heights of men aged 25 to 34 are normally distributed about the mean. We will find the approximate percentage of men aged 25 to 34 whose height is between 69 and 71 inches. To do this, we will estimate the percent of data which is at least 69 inches and at most 71 inches and show it on the graph.
Finally, we can find the percentage of men by adding the percents of the shaded areas.
p≈13 %+15.7 %+14.3 %
p≈ 43 %
The percentage of men whose height is between 69 and 71 inches is about 43 %.
