The first step in simplifying this expression is to identify which, if any, terms can be combined. Remember, only like terms — constant terms or terms with the same variable and the same exponent — can be combined. ( 9t^4 + 5t + 8)-(3t^2 - 6t - 4) In this case, we have one t^4-term, one t^2-term, two t-terms, and two constants. Only the t-terms and constants can be combined, so to simplify the expression we will rearrange it according to the Commutative Property of Addition and then combine like terms.

(9t^4+5t+8)-(3t^2-6t-4)
(9t^4+5t+8)-3t^2+6t+4
9t^4+5t+8-3t^2+6t+4
9t^4-3t^2+5t+6t+8+4
