Value of f(5)

Let's start by finding the value of f(5). To do this, substitute 5 for x in the function rule.

f(x)=2x
f( 5)=2( 5)
f(5)=10

When x=5, f(x)= 10.

Value of g(1)

Now, we have to find the value of g(1). To do this, substitute 1 for x in the function rule.

g(x)=x^2+1
g( 1)=( 1)^2+1
g(1)=1+1
g(1)=2

When x=1, g(x)= 2.

Difference

Since we have both f(5) and g(1), we can find the value of our expression.
