Exercise 79 Page 170

Use the Subtraction Property of Equality to eliminate the sum.

-1/9

Practice makes perfect

To solve the equation we have to isolate k on one side of the equation. Using the Subtraction Property of Equality, we will subtract 23 from both sides of the equation. This will eliminate the sum on the left-hand side of the equation and isolate k.

k+2/3=5/9
k+2/3-2/3=5/9-2/3
k+0=5/9-2/3
k=5/9-2/3
k=5/9-6/9
k=-1/9
k=-1/9
