Use the Subtraction Property of Equality to eliminate the sum.

To solve the equation we need to isolate v on one side of the equation. Using the Subtraction Property of Equality, we will subtract 5 from both sides of the equation. This will eliminate the sum on the left-hand side of the equation and isolate y.

v+5=-6
v+5-5=-6-5
v+0=-11
v=-11
