Practice makes perfect

To solve an equation, we should first gather all of the variable terms on one side of the equation and all of the constant terms on the other side using the Properties of Equality. In this case, we will start by changing the signs on both sides of the given equation. We can do it by dividing both sides of the equation by - 1.

-(w+5)=- 14
(w+5)=14
w+5=14
w+5-5=14-5
w=9

The solution to the equation is w=9.
