We want to use a table to estimate the solution for the given equation. 4t-2=9 We will start the process by using two arbitrary values such as 1 and 2. If we substitute them for t, we can see if the result is going in the right direction. Next, we will focus on whether the result is not far enough or perhaps too far from our final goal.

2 4( 2)-2 6 Right direction
3 4( 3)-2 10 A little too far

Since 2 got us in the right direction and 3 took the result slightly too far, we know that the solution is between 2 and 3.
