First Value
The number 79 is a fraction between 0 and 1. To graph this value on a number line, we divide the segment into 9 shorter segments of the same length and move 7 steps in the positive direction.
Second Value
Note that any positive number is greater than any negative number. Therefore, we instantly know that - 0.8 is the least of all three numbers since the other two are positive.
- 0.8 < 7/9 and - 0.8 < sqrt(3)
Third Value
Since sqrt(3) is an irrational number, we will approximate its value using a calculator.
sqrt(3)=1.73205...
With that in mind, we can approximate the location of sqrt(3).
