Practice makes perfect

We will find the length of the midsegment VS.

Recall the Trapezoid Midsegment Theorem.

Trapezoid Midsegment Theorem

The midsegment of a trapezoid is parallel to each base and its measure is one half the sum of the lengths of the bases.

Using the theorem, we can write the following equation. VS= 1/2 ( UT+ QR) We are given that UT= 22 and QR= 12. Let's find the length of VS, by solving the equation.
VS=1/2 (UT+QR)
Solve for VS
VS=1/2( 22+ 12)
VS=1/2(34)
VS=1* 34/2
VS=34/2
VS=17
We found that midsegment VS=17.
