Exercise 14 Page 887

First identify the stages of the multi-stage experiment.

Practice makes perfect

Ping and her friends go to a frozen yogurt parlor. We are given the sign of the parlor.

From the given choices, we will write the choice of toppings separately because we want to allow for the possibility of choosing both peanuts and sprinkles. Therefore, there are four stages of ordering a frozen yogurt.

  • Cake (C), Sugar (Su), Waffle (W)
  • Strawberry (St), Lime (L)
  • Peanuts (P), No peanuts (NP)
  • Sprinkles (Sp), No sprinkles (NSp)

Let's draw a tree diagram to represent the sample space for buying a frozen yogurt.
