Exercise 13 Page 887

First identify the stages of the multi-stage experiment.

Practice makes perfect
We are given the choice stages of buying a new vehicle. We need to write the choice of a CD player and/or sunroof as separate stages, because we prefer to allow for the possibility of choosing both a CD player and a sunroof. Therefore, there are four stages of buying a new vehicle.
  • Sedan (S), Truck (T), or Van (V)
  • Leather (L) or Fabric (F)
  • CD player (P) or no CD player (NP)
  • Sunroof (R) or no sunroof (NR)

Let's draw a tree diagram to represent the sample space for buying a new vehicle.
