Exercise 37 Page 904

Can you think of other factors that influence the performance of the athletes?

No, see solution.

Practice makes perfect

We are asked to determine whether athletic events can be considered random events. An event can be called random if we cannot predict its outcomes. However, we can think of many factors that influence the performance of the athletes. Here are some examples.

This means that on the athletic events we can try to guess the outcome by considering the above factors. Therefore, athletic events cannot be considered random. Although in some sports there are random factors, like wind or other weather conditions, the organizers of an event always try to minimize them.
