Exercise 51 Page 838

Remember that 1 %=0.01.

C

Practice makes perfect
A county proposes a new 0.5 % property tax. We are asked to find the additional tax amount for a property that has a taxable value of $85 000. This tells us that we have to find 0.5 % of $85 000. Since 1 %=0.01, we get that 0.5 %=0.005. We will find the tax value by by multiplying $85 000 by 0.005.

Tax Value: 0.005* $ 85 000=$ 425 This tells us that that tax amount is $ 425. This answer corresponds to option C.
