Start by marking a corner of the solid.

Practice makes perfect
We are asked to sketch a rectangular prism that is 2 units high, 3 units long, and 2 units wide, using isometric dot paper.

To draw the prism we will follow the steps below.

  1. Mark a corner of the solid.
  2. Draw 2 units down from the corner.
  3. Draw 3 units left from the corner.
  4. Draw 2 units right from the corner.
  5. Draw two other sides of a rectangle in the top base of the prism.
  6. Draw segments 2 units down from each vertex for the vertical edges using a dashed line for the hidden edges.
  7. Connect the appropriate vertices using a dashed line for the hidden edges.
  8. Add some colors and shadings, if desired. We will!
