Exercise 6 Page 713

234

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we want to find 65 % of 360. Therefore, we have that p= 65 and b= 360.
a/b=p/100
a/360=65/100
a=65/100* 360
Evaluate right-hand side
a=65* 360/100
a=23 400/100
a=234
This means that 234 is 65 % of 360.
