Exercise 4 Page 713

18

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we want to find 10 % of 180. Therefore, we have that p= 10 and b= 180.
a/b=p/100
a/180=10/100
a/180=1/10
a=1/10* 180
Evaluate right-hand side
a=180/10
a=18
This means that 18 is 10 % of 180.
