To factor by grouping we will take the greatest common factor of the first pair of terms and the greatest common factor of the second pair of terms.

a^2-4ac + ab-4bc

Factor out a

a(a+b) - 4ac - 4bc

Factor out - 4c

a(a+b)-4c(a+b)

Notice that (a+b) is a factor of both terms, so we can factor it out.

a(a+b)-4c(a+b)

Factor out ( a+b )

( a-4c ) ( a+b )
