Exercise 58 Page 51

Factor the given expression by grouping.

(4c-d)(2a+b)

Practice makes perfect

To factor by grouping, we will take the greatest common factor of the first pair of terms and the greatest common factor of the second pair of terms.

8ac - 2ad+4bc-bd
2a( 4c-d ) + 4bc - bd
2a( 4c-d ) +b( 4c-d )

Notice that (4c-d) is a factor of both terms, so we can factor it out.

2a( 4c-d ) +b( 4c-d )
( 4c-d ) ( 2a+b )
