Exercise 7 Page 25

We can use the FOIL method to multiply the length and width.

4x^2+72x+320 in^2

Practice makes perfect

We want to write an expression that represents the total area of the picture and frame.

Since the frame has a width of x inches all the way around, the width and the length are 2x inches longer. w= 2x+16 & l = 2x+20 To find the product of the binomials, we need to use the FOIL Method.
( 2x+16)( 2x+20)
(2x)(2x)+(2x)(20)+(16)(2x)+(16)(20)
4x^2+40x+32x+320
4x^2+72x+320
The total area of the picture and frame is 4x^2+72x+320 in^2.
