Since the walkway has a width of x feet all the way around, the width and the length are 2x inches longer. w= 2x+8 & l = 2x+6 To find the product of the binomials, we need to use the FOIL method.

Multiply parentheses

(2x)(2x)+(2x)(6)+(8)(2x)+(8)(6)

Multiply

4x^2+12x+16x+48

Add terms

4x^2+28x+48

The total area of the garden and walkway is 4x^2+28x+48 in^2.
