Exercise 49 Page 10

Practice makes perfect
a We are asked to find the geometric term for the intersection of the pole and sign. The pole and sign represent a line and a finite plane. Let's start by looking at a diagram of these two models.

The line and the plane intersect at one point.

b When two infinite planes intersect, they form a line. Let's look at an example.

The planes are finite, which means they end. This also means that the intersection ends. A line that has end points is called a segment. Note that, if these had been standard planes rather than finite ones, the intersection would have been a line.
