Exercise 80 Page 471

What makes a sequence arithmetic?

Arithmetic Sequence? Yes.
Common Difference: - 1

Practice makes perfect

When a sequence is arithmetic, the difference between two consecutive terms is constant. Examining our sequence, we can see that this is not the case. 7 - 1 → 6 - 1 → 5 - 1 → 4 Therefore, the sequence is arithmetic and the common difference is - 1.
