Exercise 29 Page 130

The word equals divides the sentence into what should be on the left-hand side and what should be on the right-hand side of the equation.

Equation: t-7=r+6
Solution: t=r+13

Practice makes perfect
Every equation has an equals sign and values or expressions on either side of it. Key phrases, such as is, is equal to, and equals tell us about the placement of the equals sign. Seven less than a numbert = another numberrplus6. On the left-hand side, we have the keyword less. This word tells us the operation that will be used in our equation, which for less is subtraction. Sevenless than a numbert t - 7 On the right-hand side, we have the keyword plus. This word tells us to add. Another numberrplus 6 r + 6 Putting these sides together, we have a complete equation. t- 7= r+ 6 Finally, we can solve the equation we have written. We will do this using inverse operations and following the Properties of Equality.
t-7=r+6
t-7+7=r+6+7
t=r+13
