Exercise 31 Page 665

Factor out the common factor to combine the radicals expressions.

4sqrt(3x)

Practice makes perfect
Radicals can only be added or subtracted when they have like radicands. a sqrt(x) + b sqrt(x) = (a+b) sqrt(x) asqrt(x)-bsqrt(x)=(a-b)sqrt(x) Since all of the radicands are alike, so we can perform the addition and subtraction by factoring out the common factor.
4sqrt(3x) - 3sqrt(3x) +3sqrt(3x)
(4 - 3 +3)sqrt(3x)
4sqrt(3x)
