Exercise 2 Page p32

How many surfaces does a rectangular prism have?

72 m^2

A rectangular prism has a total of six surfaces. The dimensions of these six surfaces can be thought of in pairs — two sides are the prism's length l and width w, another two sides are the prism's length l and height h, and the final pair are the prism's width w and height h. To find the surface area of the prism, we need to add the area of all six of these sides together. S=2l w+2l h+2whWe are told that the dimensions of our prism are l =8m, w=2m, and h=2m.

By substituting these values into the formula, we can determine the surface area of the rectangular prism.

S=2l w+2l h+2wh
S=2( 8)( 2)+2( 8)( 2)+2( 2)( 2)
S=32+32+8
S=72

The surface area is 72 m^2.
