$\frac{a}{b} = \frac{a \cdot 2}{b \cdot 2}$

- \frac{7 \cdot 2}{8 \cdot 2} - (- \frac{3}{1 6})

- \frac{1 4}{1 6} - (- \frac{3}{1 6})

Now that they have the same denominator, we can subtract. Notice that subtracting a negative number is the same as adding a positive number.

- \frac{1 4}{1 6} - (- \frac{3}{1 6})

$a - (- b) = a + b$

- \frac{1 4}{1 6} + \frac{3}{1 6}

Put minus sign in numerator

\frac{- 1 4}{1 6} + \frac{3}{1 6}

Add fractions

\frac{- 1 4 + 3}{1 6}

Add terms

\frac{- 1 1}{1 6}

Put minus sign in front of fraction
