Position the protractor so that the vertex of the angle coincides exactly with the center mark of the protractor. Then, align the base line of the protractor with one of the sides of the angle.
Observe the direction in which the angle is oriented, either clockwise or counterclockwise. For this example, since the ray intersects the zero mark on the right side of the protractor, the angle is measured in a counterclockwise direction with the inner scale.
Next, read the degree measure where the second ray crosses the scale. In this case, the second ray is at 145 on the inner scale, indicating that the angle measures 145∘.
Notice that if the protractor is placed so that the slant side of the angle aligns with the base line, the angle should be measured in the clockwise direction with the outer scale. Nevertheless, the angle measure is the same.
