Percentage Change

The percentage change is the change in percent when a quantity has changed. For example, buying a house for

$ 120000

and selling it for

$ 150000

results in a profit. What is then the percentage change?

Determine increase or decrease

Determine if the situation is a increase or decrease.

Increase	New number $>$ Old number
Decrease	Old Number $<$ New Number

Since $150000 > 120000,$ it's an increase.

Calculate change

When the change is an increase, the old number should be subtracted from the new one. $150000 - 120000 = 30000$

Calculate percentage change

The percentage change can now be found by dividing the change with the old number and multiply by $100 .$ $\frac{3 0 0 0 0}{1 2 0 0 0 0} \cdot 100 = 0.4 \cdot 100 = 40$ The percentage change is $40 % .$
