Exercise 3 Page 342

What is the percentage of juniors whose score is at least the mean?

50 %

Practice makes perfect

We have been told that the scores on a test are normally distributed with a mean of 74 and a standard deviation of 8. We will find the percentage of juniors whose score is at least 74. To find the percentage, we will shade the percent of data which is above the mean.

Finally, we can find the percentage of juniors whose score is at least 74 by adding the percentages of the shaded areas.

p=34 %+13.5 %+2.35 %+0.15 %
p=50 %

The percentage of juniors whose score is at least 74 is 50 %.
