We have been given the following scatter plot.

We want to estimate whether the correlation coefficient r is closer to -1, -0.5, 0, 0.5, or 1. In order to that, we can start with drawing a line through the plotted points as closely to the middle as we can. Let's do it!

Since the points quite precisely follow the line with a negative slope, r is close to -1.
