Exercise 5 Page 33

How many seconds are there in a minute? And how many minutes in an hour?

324 seconds, 0.09 hours

Practice makes perfect

We have been asked to convert 5.4 minutes into seconds and hours. To do this, we can use two conversion factors. Since we want to convert to seconds, the number of seconds in one minute will go in the numerator, and one minute will go in the denominator.
5.4 mins * 60 secs/1 min =5.4* 60secs/1 =324 secs

Now we can convert minutes to hours. The number of hours will need to be in the numerator as that is the unit we need. This means that the number of minutes in an hour will go in the denominator. 5.4 mins* 1 hr/60 mins = 5.4 hrs/60 = 0.09 hrs Therefore 5.4 minutes are equal to 324 seconds and 0.09 hours.
