We want to find which statement is best supported by the given scatter plot. To do so, we can start by reviewing different patterns of associations between two data sets that can be shown using scatter plots.

Notice that we can use the shape of the distribution of a scatter plot to determine the type of the association. For example, in a negative association the value of y decreases as the value of x increases. Now, let's look at the given scatter plot.

We can see on the diagram that the scatter plot shows the relationship between bivariate data graphed as ordered pairs: (fruit,cost). Notice that as the values on the x-axis increase, the values on the y-axis also increase. This means that the scatter plot shows a positive association between two data sets. Next, we can write the data sets represented on each axis. &x-axis:&Weight of the Fruit in Pounds& &y-axis:&Cost of the Fruit in Dollars& The x-axis represents the weight of the fruit in pounds and the y-axis represents the cost of the fruit in dollars.
