Exercise 1 Page 448

Plot the vertices given in the exercise. Then measure units to the left or to the right of both of these vertices.

Example solution:

In this exercise, we want to graph a rectangle and label the two missing vertices. To do so, we will use the given information. We are told that the rectangle has vertices and and that the length of one of the sides of this rectangle is units. Let's start with plotting the given vertices in the coordinate plane.

Notice that if we connect these two vertices, we will get one vertical side of our rectangle with a length of units. We know that another side length is units. This will be a horizontal side. Therefore, we can count units to either the left or the right of both of the given vertices to find the points of another two vertices of the rectangle. Let's plot them to the right of the two given vertices.

Finally, we can connect all of the vertices to obtain a rectangle. Let's do it!

Note that here we plotted the missing two vertices to the right of the given two vertices. However, if we measured units to the left of the given vertices, the obtained rectangle would also satisfy the requirements of the task.
