Fraction: 5/8
Decimal: 0.625
Percent: 62.5 %

Practice makes perfect

When calculating probability, we are comparing the number of favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. To calculate the probability that a spun color is not green we will use the Probability Formula. P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes Let's take a look at the spinner.

spinner
The spinner has 8 sections, so the number of possible outcomes is 8. Out of these, 5 sections are not green, which is the number of favorable outcomes. Now we have enough information to calculate P(not green).
P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes
P(blue)=5/8
The probability of spinning a section that is not green is 58. Next, we can rewrite the fraction as a decimal and as a percent.

As a Decimal

To write a fraction as a decimal, we divide the numerator by the denominator.
division
We found that 58 expressed as a decimal is 0.625.

As a Percent

To write a fraction as a percent, we first find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. 5/8=p/100 Let's solve the equation for p.
5/8 = p/100
5/8* 100 =p/100* 100
5/8* 100 = p
0.625* 100 = p
62.5 = p
p = 62.5
The fraction written as a percent is 62.5 %.
