Exercise 2 Page 769

We have 10 choices for the first digit of code. For the next digit we have one less choice, and so on.

30 240

Practice makes perfect

We know that a garage door code has 5 digits. The digits come from a set 0 to 9 and they should not repeat in the code. Therefore, we have 10 choices for the first digit. Then, we have 10-1 = 9 choices for the second digit, and so on.

First Digit Second Digit Third Digit Fourth Digit Fifth Digit
10 9 8 7 6

Now, we will use the Fundamental Counting Principle to find the answer. In this case, the number of possible codes is the product of choices we have for each of its digits. 10 * 9 * 8 * 7 * 6 Now, let's calculate this product. 10 * 9 * 8 * 7 * 6 = 30 240
