Use the Probability Formula.
1/2
When calculating probability, we are comparing the number of favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes. To calculate the probability that a randomly selected movie is science fiction we will use the Probability Formula.
P=Favorable Outcomes/Possible Outcomes
First, we will find the number of movies Jason has.
| Type of Movie | |
|---|---|
| Science Fiction | 10 |
| Action | 7 |
| Comedy | 3 |
Jason has a total of 10 science fiction, 7 action, and 3 comedy movies. The sum of these values is the number of possible outcomes. 10 + 7 + 3= 20 movies The number of favorable outcomes is the number of science fiction movies, which is 10. Now we have enough information to calculate P(science fiction).
Substitute values
a/b=.a /10./.b /10.
Calculate quotient
The probability of selecting a science fiction movie is 12.
